Week 10 - August 22

Hola, Como estan? So this week was super awesome/weird/amazing!! On
Wednesday we had Interviews with my mission president. We individually
talked to President Brough and his wife. They are such amazing and
funny people. I first walked into the church classroom where we were
doing it and he said, "Do you like all my paintings?" (Gesturing to
blank white walls all over the room), so I said "yes they are
gorgeous!!!" Then he proceeded to explain what each painting was, even
though there was nothing there :) He gave me some good counsel and
advice too. I am so grateful for someone who loves God so much and
wants to serve him but also knows how to have fun while doing it :)

Eder..... He sorta is super busy and has cancelled appointments on us
twice this week and didn't come to church yesterday.... So we are
worried he is dropping us... Which would be sooo sad, because he is so
close to finding the truth! We will find out later today what we are
going to do next to try and help him.

Jennifer- Her family came to church again! Yay! But only to
sacrament.... So we aren't sure how to get them to all 3 hours. But this is apparently a miracle to have them going at all, and with
4weeks in a row we are very happy. She has been a little wild and
crazy lately, so we will continue working with her.

Brando: okay so I lied to you all.... His name is Brando, not
Brandon..... But make sure you roll the r when you say it. Anyway, so
we had 4 lessons with him this week.... Talk about crazy! We've never
had that many with someone in one week!!! (granted I have only been
here for 4...but...) so we had the first one on his front porch about
the restoration. He listened but you could tell he didn't really
believe it. We gave him a Book of Mormon and invited him to read it
and pray about it. He guaranteed us that he wasn't going to pray.
Right after we left , he called us and asked him if we could read the
Book of Mormon with him. So we said yes that would be perfect. The
next time we had a lesson was Friday night. We skyped him and read the
testimony of the 3 witnesses from e Book of Mormon and talked about
it. And so that was nice. He had trouble believing Lehi was really a
prophet because he isn't mentioned in the bible. So he came to church on Sunday!!! :) we only had sacrament meeting because the men had a priesthood meeting later in the day, so the rest was cancelled. But he came :) He refused to sing.... And was very bored (not without cause) and was overwhelmed with everyone and their dog trying to talk to us and him.... So we are hoping he will come back next week. So after church we had a lesson with him at the church. We talked about the first half of the plan of salvation. We also ended up talking about the law of chastity and temple marriage and the gospel of Christ...... He has lots of questions..... So it was good and we could tell he felt the spirit, even if he wasn't ready to admit it yet. We tried to get him to pray... He said he would if we made a basket with the basketball in the gym... So we both tried and missed...... So he wouldn't pray..... Then later we were out talking to people at like 3:30, and we are walking right in front of his house, a little bit down the road, and he calls us on the phone. We were like "whoa! Is he watching us?" So we said said we would come over to his house. About 30 seconds later we knocked on his door. He answered and we talked to him on the porch. He was like "well are we going to start with a prayer?" And so we did. Then he said right away that he had been with his family and he had been thinking about things and decided that his family is very alone- all of their family is in Mexico- and they need support. So he says now he wants to have faith in God! So that was a huge step. We were very happy. Then we somehow got onto the subject of the word of wisdom... That's going to be a big change for him if he is serious about wanting to learn more. At the moment he does, but doesn't want to change. We are also trying to decide if he actually wants to learn more or if he just has a crush on Hermana Starling (well los dos son verdaderos). We know he does but we are trying to gauge his interest taking into account the attractive companion of mine. We were talking about temple marriage at one point and he was like " so you mean if I was Mormon you would marry me?" We thought it was a joke which it probably was, but he kept bringing it up over and over... Really just super funny, because he is a really good looking guy, but there is no way Hermana starling would break the rules. So during this time, I just yelled him in a nice way, which wasn't really yelling.... But we both made it clear why we were there etc. and at one point I like moved my chair in between him and her and was like " look at me, not her!" Then I told him what was up. It was actually the most hilarious thing ever but we had to be serious in the moment so he would take us seriously. Anyway, we aren't sure what to do with him.... But we are going to do our best and be safe and drop him if he is only doing it for her.

Oh... And also, we got to go to the fair on Saturday!!!! There were
some members that wanted to take us and our mission president
approved, so we got to go! It was a lot of fun! We ate lots of junk
food, saw huge animals and small animals, and took lots of photos. So
good to relax for a day. Oh and get this... We got to wear pants!!!!
It was so fun! I did not want to put my skirt back on after.

Anyway, this week was awesome! I learned that we need to be patient
with people, and that in God's time all things will work out. Even
though we may think that we know best, we don't. But God knows when
people are ready to hear the gospel and when people are ready to make
and keep commitments. We are just messengers, who have the opportunity
to share it :)

Don't have much time today since we took our pday on Saturday and have
permission to email for an hour and a half today. Have a great week :)
